Scene 1

Visibly tired Chuck Hooper comes in the room in the evening after a day’s work . He unknots his tie

Chuck -   Hey  Marcy , I am home ! can we have evening tea together ?

Marcy – yes , sure ! I am getting tea in 5 minutes

While they are sipping tea, their dog Duke comes and sits near Chuck’s feet

The  narrator narrates :

NARRATOR – Dear Friends , allow me to introduce Mr Chuck Hooper and his wife Marcy to all of you. Mr Chuck is a sales manager in a chemical company and earns very good salary .He was a university player of football . Marcy is his wife . Mr Chuck loves the dogs very much and especially the bolder ones like Doberman whereas Marcy doesn’t like the dogs at all but she doesn’t mind keeping a Pompeian dog .

Scene -2

Hooper meets with an accident while driving his car

Group of people – O My God ! how it happened ? He is bleeding a lot !! rush him to the hospital

Sound of ambulance

Chuck’s one of office colleagues comes to see Marcy

Collegue – Mrs.Chuck Hooper , I have a bad news for you. You husband has met with an accident .Let me take you to the hospital in my car .

Marcy – ( makes a cross on her chest with her fingers ) O Jesus ! Save his life

In the hospital ---

Doctor  –Take the patient in the operation theatre

Marcy phones her neighbour Mr Peter

Marcy – Mr Peter , Chuck has met with an accident . May I request you to kindly drop our dog Duke in the kennel

Doctor operates upon the patient’s head

Doctor – I have saved his life but I am afraid he is paralysed because motor section of his brain is not functioning properly .

After five months

Collegue – Mr Chuck , Our company has decided to give you one year off . We will create a desk job for you at the headquarters .

Scene 3

Chuck is on the wheelchair and hospital staff is exercising his paralysed arms and the legs. But there is no progress

Doctor – marcy, u can take your husband home.

Chuck-Ahh! At last I am coming home.

(Marcy quetly went to work and chuck was alone with his thoughts)

Marcy-Chuck, I am thinking to bring Duke home from the kennel.

Chuck-Marcy, Can you support me as I want to stand when Duke comes from the kennel.

(Duke nails were long from months and when he spied chuck , he stood quivering like 5000 watts)

Marcy –(telling another lady)I think duke has understood that Chuck is not well and that is why he never jumped on chuck again. I have also noticed that now a days, duke always sit beside chuck.

 Marcy-(visiting doctor ) Doctor I have to share one good news with you. Few days back,I saw  Chucks good hand ideally hooked the leash of the Duke’s collar to hold him still.i think that duke wants to help chuck as I have seen that when chuck holds dukes leash . Duke pulls him as he wants chuck to stand up and walk few steps .

Every day there is an improvement in chuck, ist day he took 4 steps and next day he took 8 steps……………………………..

Narrator- By now neighbours on their street were watching the pattern of progress. On June 1^st news spread that Hopper and duke had made to an intersection quiet far away.

Chuk-(Telling Marcy)-Marcy,I think its time to join the office again as I am able to walk now with help of Duke.

Marcy- OH! Its good to hear that you are joing office again.

Narrator-thirteen months from the moment  he worked full days)

Chuck (Came home excited), Marcy, do u know I am promoted to regional Manager covering four states. I am really very happy about this promotion.

Marcy- Lovely, I am very happy to know this. Lets celebrate.

Narrator-Chuck, Mercy and Duke moved to their new Home in 1957.

Chuck- lets call our colleagues and friends over for dinner to our new home.

Marcy- Good Idea!

 Narrator-Suddenly Chuck heard the screech of brakes outside.Instinctively he looked for Duke.

Chuck- Oh my God! Duke is  badly injured

Marcy- Please call the vet and tell him that we are coming to his clinic with Duke.( she alone carried the dog in her arms)

Doctor- I am giving him  injections but I don’t think he will not survive for  many hours as his injuries are too severe.

Narrator- Few weeks  later…., an order came through from Chemical company headquarters to advance their objectives Step by Step and  Chuck was appointed assistant national sales Manager.
